Cookies We Use

Last updated: October 2026

Cookie pages are usually long lists of strange names and expiry dates. Ours is short, because there is very little to report. Well of Dreams does not use analytics, advertising or social media cookies, and none of the pages load scripts whose purpose is to follow you around the web.

The one thing we store

When you arrive for the first time, a small notice appears asking whether you accept or decline. Your answer is saved in your browser's local storage, which is a small storage area that websites can use on your own device. It is similar to a cookie, but it is not sent back to any server with each page request.

Choosing "decline" does not block any part of the site. Every article, page and category works in exactly the same way whichever button you press.

What we do not store

  • No identifiers that recognise you across visits for statistics.
  • No advertising or remarketing cookies.
  • No cookies from video players, maps or social share widgets.
  • No login or session cookies, as there are no accounts.

Changing your mind

To see the notice again and make a different choice, clear the stored data for this site in your browser. Look in your browser's privacy area for the option to delete stored data for one website only; other sites stay untouched. The next time you open a page, the notice will return.

Why we kept it this simple

People often read health pages at sensitive moments, perhaps after a worrying appointment or during a sleepless night. We did not want anyone to wonder whether their reading about sleep problems or caring for a parent was being recorded somewhere. Running without statistics means we know less about which articles are popular, and we are comfortable with that trade. Reader emails tell us far more about what is useful than a dashboard ever could.

Other websites

If you follow a link from one of our articles to another organisation's website, that site may use its own cookies. Its cookie and privacy information will explain what it does.

Our wider approach to privacy

Our full privacy commitments explain the brief technical logs our hosting provider keeps and what happens when you email us. Questions about this page can go to desk@well-of-dreams.com.
